I do not take credit for these. Some of these were written at a time when I was still learning how to make pink archons.
*The first is a general introduction to the editor and its menus:
http://www.sc2mapster.com/api-docs/getting-started-with-galaxy-edit/
*Now that you know where all the buttons are, you can go ahead and make your first unit:
http://www.sc2mapster.com/api-docs/getting-started-with-galaxy-edit/creating-your/
*But that's not good enough for you, you want a hero!
http://www.sc2mapster.com/api-docs/getting-started-with-galaxy-edit/complete-hero/
*A hero resurrection video tutorial by OneTwo #855 that has helped fix my item problem upon hero death:
http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/tutorials/5020-video-triggers-hero-revival/
NOTE: there is an important stat for heroes called "Stat - Death time" that needs to be greater than 0, or -1 for infinite, for revive to work.
*Ok, you have a hero now, and he can shoot all those unfortunate zerglings you filled the map with. But we all know that triggers make the map:
(Video-based): http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/tutorials/2843-video-tutorial-basic-triggers/
Alternative: http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/tutorials/2051-beginners-guide-to-triggers-variables-arrays-constants/
*You're getting better now, so you want to start making your units and abilities start doing interesting new things. Well, you need to adjust actors for that:
http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/tutorials/4656-data-working-with-actors-beginner-difficulty/
*An extensive tutorial on making your very own melee (aka, standard skirmish) maps by Thander #337:
http://sc2armory.com/forums/topic/14794
*A tutorial for making a Tower Defense:
http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/tutorials/972-misc-simple-td-tutorial-8-parts-sc2galaxyeditor-com/
*Upgrade tutorial:
http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/tutorials/1370-data-accumulative-and-multiple-upgrade-with-queue/
*A very useful skill: dialog boxes. I use this extensively for making hero selection and skill trees:
http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/tutorials/1216-trigger-make-a-dialog-for-race-class-selection/
*Advanced movement tutorials:
3rd-person: http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/tutorials/425-trigger-3rd-person-movement/
WASD: http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/tutorials/2342-tutorial-8-way-wasd-movement/
*Advanced Hosting and Site operators tutorial (merge models together):
http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/tutorials/4284-data-working-with-hosting-and-site-operations-the-uberlisk/
This is obviously not a complete list of tutorials, nor do they show you some of the more advanced features of the editor, but these should all be extremely helpful in helping you get started.
UPDATE FOR UNIT TUTORIAL:
For the Unit tutorial, if your unit appears in the map as a white sphere, do the following:
1. Open the actor you made for the new unit (for ex. Marine Copy)
2. Go to the following lines:
Art - Model: marinie (Unknown)
Art - Model (Build): marinie (Unknown)
Art - Model (Editor):
Art - Model (Placement): marinie (Unknown)
Art - Model (Portrait): Portrait - Marine
You will see that these values are defined with a name very similar to what you named the new unit (for ex. marinie (Unknown)). This is wrong, as these models do not actually exist.
3. For the Model, Model (Build), and Model (Placement), set the values to the model you duplicated along with the actor (for ex. Marine Copy). Or set them to another existing model (for ex. Marine)
4. For the Model (Portrait) line, set the value to a portrait model (for ex. Portrait - Marine)
The final lines should look like this (Or something similar):
Art - Model: Marine Copy
Art - Model (Build): Marine Copy
Art - Model (Editor):
Art - Model (Placement): Marine Copy
Art - Model (Portrait): Portrait - Marine
You will notice that your new unit is no longer a sphere.
AS ALWAYS, IF YOU HAVE TUTORIALS YOU FEEL BELONG ON THIS LIST, POST THEM HERE SO I CAN ADD THEM. MANY THANKS!
